Compensation Fees
Novo Verde, in accordance with paragraph c) of no. 1 of article 12 of Decree-Law no. 152-D/2017, in its current wording, is responsible for providing financial compensation to support increased costs with selective collection and sorting of packaging waste, as well as providing financial compensation to support the costs of sorting packaging waste at mechanical treatment plants and mechanical and biological treatment, the organic recovery of packaging waste and the treatment of metallic slag resulting from the incineration of urban waste and other fractions considered recycling.
Order No. 14202-C/2016, of 25 November 2016, groups the urban waste management systems of the Mainland according to the homogeneous characteristics and dynamics, and defines a counterpart value for each group and material.

The amounts of financial compensation for the packaging waste selective collection and the respective sorting [VC (Standard Company)] to be applied to the urban waste management systems of Portugal Mainland during the term of the Novo Verde Permit, are shown in Table I.

The Compensation Values applicable to the urban waste management systems of the Azores Autonomous Region are those contained in Dispatch No. 369/2020, of March 11, of the Regional Government of Azores.
The Compensation Values applicable to the Madeira Autonomous Region urban waste management systems are those contained in Dispatch No. 70/2020, of February 20, from the Regional Secretariat for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.
