Novo Verde and ERP Portugal have joined the Maratona Clube de Portugal.

Following the success of the virtual runs held in May and October 2020, the Maratona Clube de Portugal (Portuguese Marathon Club – MCP) and its main partners, namely EDP, Vodafone, CME, Mimosa, Águas de Luso and Novo Verde and ERP Portugal, are launching six new runs under the slogan “Non-Stop Recycling”. The first run will take place on April 12, 2021, with one per week at a distance of 5 or 10 km.

With the support of official sponsors and the institutional support of the Instituto Português do Desporto e da Juventude and the Lisbon City Council (CML), it is possible to promote this third round of virtual runs in a free format for participants and with the offer of an exclusive medal (the number of medals is limited).

The schedule foresees six races in a “sequence”, achieving a weekly revival of the number of participants, which is expected to reach about 10,000 participants in October.

“At that time, in 2020, I was far from imagining that we would have to organize virtual races, but the pandemic and its tragic evolution have forced us to do so. Today I feel that we have done the best, taking into account what is allowed in the context of sporting events,” stresses Carlos Moia, president of the Maratona Clube de Portugal, who also adds: “I feel mixed emotions, on the one hand, deep sadness that we are still not able to organize the big face-to-face events, on the other hand, the certainty of having fulfilled a duty. To continue running with the support of our partners, our athletes, amateurs and professionals, in a virtual format.”

In this way, even in a crisis as serious and unexpected as the one we are experiencing, the MCP continues to fulfil the purpose with which it was created 30 years ago: to promote the practice of the sport in a safe format, accessible to all, and with a final prize. The top five thousand finalists will receive a free medal, indicating the third edition of this initiative.
